The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is the guardian of the Olympic Games and the leader of the Olympic Movement. A truly global organisation, it acts as a catalyst for collaboration between all Olympic stakeholders, including athletes, National Olympic Committees (NOCs), International Sports Federations (IFs), Organising Committees for the Olympic Games (OCOGs), Worldwide Olympic Partners and Media Rights-Holders. It also works with public and private authorities, including the United Nations and other international organisations.
The IOC is seeking a data & AI trainee with background in data engineering, data science and/or machine learning (ML) to work within the Olympic Games Department and support the effective collection, analysis and reporting of Games data, which plays a crucial role in supporting Games planning, delivery and experience. This role focuses on providing valuable insights that inform decision-making processes related to management of risks, costs, waste and complexity, as well as fan engagement and experiences.
Games Data and AI Trainee’s main responsibilities:
Data sourcing, quality, governance and pipelines
- In collaboration with the Games Operations data and analytics team, support the comprehensive collection and analysis of quantitative data across a variety of use cases related to Games planning, delivery and experience across organising committees and the IOC.
- Clean, process and prepare data from various internal and external resources for analysis, ensuring its accuracy and integrity.
- Provide input to projects through data driven findings which support Games evaluation, as well as on specific use cases identified related to Games planning, delivery and experience.
- Develop, maintain and improve automated processes for information storage and data collection, enhancing efficiency and reducing manual effort.
- Manage team project tracking tools and dashboards.
Model training inputs and feedback loops
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define high-quality training datasets for Games AI models. Support the design and management of feedback mechanisms that continuously improve model performance and relevance, ensuring outputs align with operational realities and strategic goal.
AI tooling / ML Ops support
- Work cross-functionally within the IOC to support the integration of new tools and platforms to streamline information and data processing and ensure timely access to critical insights.
- Develop, maintain and improve automated processes for information storage and data collection, enhancing efficiency and reducing manual effort.
- Provide technical oversight and support for AI/ML tooling used within the Games department. This includes supporting on deployment workflows, monitoring model health, and ensuring compliance with internal operational standards, in coordination with the IOC DTI department and Data and Analytics team.
Bridge between business teams and external AI vendors / tools
- Support translation of business needs into technical requirements, facilitate integration of third-party tools, and ensure vendor outputs are actionable, trustworthy, and aligned with Games delivery objectives.
Olympic Games Department strategic projects
- Support the unit in the research, development and implementation of key strategic projects for the Olympic Games Department, including those related to the IOC’s strategic roadmap.
The successful candidate will be equipped with the following:
- Education: Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Technical Skills: Experience with Python or R, data engineering tools (e.g. Pandas, Polars, Fabric notebooks), machine learning, and data analysis. Familiarity with data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI) and ML Ops concepts is a plus.
- Mindset: Analytical, detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to learn. Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Tools: Experience with databases, data processing frameworks, and collaborative platforms (Microsoft 365, Smartsheet, etc.).
- English or French fluency, with excellent writing and speaking of the other language.
- Excellent command of the corporate tools and ability to follow the internal user rules (Outlook, etc.).
